Try these troubleshooting steps if your charging session fails to start.
Before you begin
Double check to make sure that you are following the steps to start the charging session correctly.
Check station status
Before proceeding, check to make sure that the station is currently set to an Available status in the EVCS app's "Stations" page, or on the Locate a Fast Charger page on evcs.com.
If the station is listed as Offline, then you will need to locate another EVCS charger.
Check the cable connection
- Ensure the charging cable is securely connected to your vehicle.
- Follow the cord down to the charger to make sure the plug belongs to the charger that you are activating.
- If you're using a Tesla adapter, connect the adapter to your car first, then attach the charging cable to the adapter. Make sure the connection is firm—even after you hear a “click,” you may need to push the connector and adapter together a bit more to ensure it's fully secure.
Check the charger panel / LCD screen
After plugging the charger into the vehicle and/or pressing "Start Charging" on the app, some stations require that the customer take additional steps before charging will begin.
Press the "Start" button on the station
Some Tritium chargers may require pressing a "Start" button on the front of the station to begin charging. After the Start button begins to flash, press Start to initiate the session.
Select the desired charging cable
Select the button corresponding to the cable in question.
Turn the vehicle off
For some vehicles, charging may only start if the car is fully turned off. Please ensure the following before charging:
- Turn off the vehicle
- Roll up all windows
- Unplug any devices from the car
Try a different payment method
If you used the app, try swiping the card or vice versa.
Check the emergency stop button
Make sure the red Emergency Stop button on the charger is released. If it is not, please contact EVCS Customer Support for assistance.
Check the vehicle charge level
If your vehicle’s charge level is critically low (below 15%), it may need to be charged using a Level 1 (home) or Level 2 (public J-1772) charging system first.
Locate another charging station
If the above doesn't work, you may need to try a different charging station at the site, or find a different site location.
