This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for initiating a pay-as-you-go charging session at an EVCS station using the QR code scanning method with your phone's camera.
Getting Started
- Scan the QR Code:
- Launch the camera app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Locate the QR code on the charging station. These are typically found on the front of the charger, but may be located on the side of some Level 2 stations.
- Point your camera at the QR code, then tap the web link that appears.
- Review Station Details: You'll be redirected to the EVCS web app on your mobile browser, which displays station-specific information such as the location name and address, cost per kWh, and preauthorization information. Take a moment to review these details.
- Start Charging Session: Tap the Next button on the web app to begin the pay-as-you-go charging process.
- Add and Confirm Payment: Enter your credit card details, or use Apple Pay / Google Pay. You will be prompted to confirm your payment details and selection before proceeding.
- Enter Your Phone Number (Required): Provide your phone number to receive charging updates and a digital receipt via SMS. Review the number on the confirmation screen and click Next to continue.
- Plug In Your Vehicle: Connect the charging cable to your vehicle's charging port. Ensure the connection is firm, and then click Next when ready.
- Preparing to Charge: The EVCS web app will now attempt to initiate the charging session. You'll see a Preparing message on the screen, indicating that the system is getting ready to charge your vehicle.
- Charging status page: Once complete, you will be redirected to the charging status page. This page displays real-time charging information, including the amount of energy delivered and the estimated time remaining.
- End charging session: When your vehicle has reached your desired charge level, you can end the charging session either through the EVCS web app by clicking End Charging Session or directly at the charging station.
- Note that some vehicles (as well as specific EV charging stations) have a configurable maximum charge percentage (typically 80%) which may cause the session to end earlier than expected.
- View receipt details: After the session ends, you can view your detailed receipt on the web app. You will also receive a copy via SMS.
