When attempting to scan a QR code at an EVCS charging station, if the preview window inside the EVCS app appears completely black, your mobile device likely hasn't granted the app permission to access your camera.

The EVCS app requires active camera permissions to display the live preview and read station QR codes. Follow the steps below for your mobile device to enable permissions and start your charge.

Step-by-Step Resolution

For iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.

  2. Scroll down to and tap the Apps option.

  3. Locate and tap EVCS.

  4. Toggle the switch next to Camera to the ON position (Green).

  5. Re-open the EVCS app and try scanning the QR code again.

For Android

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps (or Apps & Notifications) and select See All Apps.

  3. Scroll down and tap EVCS.

  4. Tap Permissions, select Camera, and set access to Allow only while using the app.

  5. Re-open the EVCS app and try scanning the QR code again.

Alternative Ways to Start Your Charge

If you prefer not to enable camera permissions, you can still easily start a session using one of these options:

  • Enter Station ID Manually: Open the EVCS app, tap the Charge button, and type in the Station ID number printed next to the station display screen.

  • Use Your Phone’s Native Camera App: Open your smartphone's built-in camera app and point it at the station QR code. Tap the pop-up link that appears to launch the web checkout page.

  • Use the Credit Card Reader: Tap or swipe your credit card directly on the payment terminal located on the charger.
