If you're having trouble stopping a charging session, try these steps to safely end your charge.
App and Digital Controls
EVCS App Troubleshooting
- Stop via App: Try to stop the charging session directly from the app before attempting to unplug the vehicle.
- Restart App: Close the EVCS app completely, reopen it, and then attempt to stop the charging session again.
QR Code / Web App Sessions
- Sessions that were initiated by scanning the QR code on the front of the station and navigating to the EVCS web app (not the mobile app) will have a Stop button on the charging webpage.
Station Hardware Controls
Manual Stop Button
- Use the charger's “Stop” button: Some EVCS chargers have a dedicated "Stop" button on the unit itself. (Note: Do not confuse this with the "Emergency Stop" button, which should only be used in emergency situations).
Payment Card Unlock
- Swipe or tap the credit card reader again: Sessions initiated via an onboard credit card reader may "lock" the session. You may need to re-scan your credit card to unlock the station, which will then allow you to stop the session.
- Tap the EVCS RFID card (for commercial customers only): If you started the session with an EVCS RFID card, tapping the same card onto the reader will stop the charge.
Vehicle Controls and Settings
Stop from Vehicle Menu
- Stop the session from the vehicle: Many vehicles offer the option to stop a charging session directly from the vehicle's screen. Check your owner's manual for instructions on how to use this feature.
Adjust Settings
- Adjust the vehicle's charging settings: Manually change your EV's maximum charging capacity to a percentage lower than the current charge level (e.g., if you are at 82%, set the max charge level to 80%). This can prompt the vehicle to stop charging.
