What is a Demand Response Event?

During periods of high electricity demand, the electrical grid may implement Demand Response events. While EVCS participates in these programs to maintain grid stability, these events are infrequent and affect only specific station locations for short periods.

Understanding Demand Response

Demand Response events are activated to maintain a stable balance between the electricity being generated (supply) and the electricity being used (demand). When demand exceeds supply, it can lead to grid instability and potential outages. By reducing the charging rate during these events, EVCS helps to alleviate strain on the grid, ensuring a reliable power supply for all users.

How Demand Response Affects Your Charging Session

During these events, the charging rate of participating station locations will be automatically reduced. Here is what to expect:

  • Reduced Charging Speed: EV stations will charge at a slower rate during a Demand Response event.
  • Duration: The reduced charging speed will only occur for the duration of the Demand Response event (typically 1–2 hours).
  • Automatic Adjustment: The charging rate will return to normal after the Demand Response event concludes.
