This article outlines how to start a charging session using your EVCS RFID card at a compatible EVCS charging station.
Card Compatibility
The RFID card reader is specifically designed for use with EVCS-provided RFID cards for commercial customers. Attempting to tap a credit card on the RFID card reader will result in an error and will not initiate a charging session.
Getting Started
- Plug In Your Vehicle: Ensure your vehicle is turned off before proceeding. Select the correct charging plug for your vehicle and firmly plug it into your vehicle's charging port.
- Locate the RFID Card Reader: EVCS charging stations are equipped with an RFID card reader to initiate a session. For examples of what the reader looks like, see the section below on Examples of RFID Card Readers.
- Tap Your RFID Card: Once you have located the RFID card reader, hold the card against the reader surface. You may hear a beep or see a light indicator to confirm the card has been read.
- Charging Session Authorization and Start: After your RFID card is successfully read, the charging station will authenticate your commercial account and the session will begin automatically. You may need to press a Start button on the front panel.
- Monitoring Your Charging Session: For stations equipped with an LCD screen, monitor your charging progress directly on the display. For charging stations without an LCD screen, please refer to the indicator lights on the station for charging status.
- Stop the Charge: The method for ending your charging session may vary: follow the on-screen prompts or use the designated Stop Charging button on the station. Certain L2 Stations without an LCD Display may require you to tap your EVCS RFID card on the card reader again to stop the charging process.
- Unplug Your Vehicle: Once the charging session has ended, carefully disconnect the charging plug from your vehicle and return it to the cradle.
Examples of RFID Card Readers
The exact appearance may vary by station model. Here are a few examples:
-
Example 1: A combination Credit Card (slot/swipe) with RFID (tap) card reader with a card symbol.
-
Example 2: An RFID card reader integrated into the bezel of the station's front panel.
-
Example 3: A separate, small panel housing the RFID card reader.
